Tired Of High Gasoline Prices? Try Mini Electric Scooters Instead!

Mini Electric Scooters

It's true, you know -- gasoline keeps going up and up and there doesn't seem to be any sign that it will be coming down, at least any time soon. Perhaps you are like me - you've just had it. I'm single, and I've found a great alternative (at least some of the time) to traditional forms of transportation: the mini electric scooter. Mini electric scooters are here to stay, and the newest models incorporate some great technological advances over the earlier prototypes. In this brief article I want to talk about the disadvantages and advantages of owning one, as well as give you some of my personal recommendations and tips.

Great Advantages Can Be Yours When You Use A Mini Electric Scooter

What are, first of all, some of the advantages of owning and using a mini electric scooter? Well, the first advantage - and most obvious - in using one is the fuel savings. By some estimations, you may save up to 90% of your fuel costs if you switch from a gasoline-powered to an electric-powered mode of transportation. But did you know that there are additional advantages as well? For example, mini electric scooters run almost silently - no noisy gasoline engine! And you can also use a mini electric scooter indoors, as well as outdoors, which could help you navigating inside the store the next time you visit your neighborhood Wall-Mart.

Of course, with an mini electric scooter you will never need to stop at a gas station to refuel - your 'refueling' can be done conveniently, anywhere there is an electrical outlet. And with an mini electric scooter you will not have the high maintenance costs of a gas-powered vehicle: no oil changes, no oil or air filter changes, no new transmission; the parts on a mini electric scooter are smaller, so when they do break down they are easier and cheaper to replace.

But There Are Some Disadvantages . . .

I won't blue-sky you here: There are also a few disadvantages to using a mini electric scooter that you need to be aware of. First of all, you may find that depending on the manufacturer and model of scooter you have purchased, they may cost more to purchase than a similar-sized gasoline-powered scooter, moped or motorcycle. Another issue is that of battery life. You will most likely not be able to travel as far on a mini electric scooter without recharging the battery, as you would on a full tank of gas with a gasoline engine. And while you can take a gas-powered scooter and get a quick fill-up, you will most likely need to recharge your mini electric scooter for a long period of time - at least a few hours, or overnight - and this can mean waiting before you can travel again.

Another disadvantage of most mini electric scooters is that they are not designed primarily for speed. An mini electric scooter will get you where you need to go, no doubt about it, but just not as fast as with something powered by a gasoline engine. In some cases - for example, traveling in an urban environment with a lot of stop-and-go traffic - that lower driving speed will not be a problem. But it may be an inconvenience to travel in the country, or on an expressway, with a mini electric scooter - they are just too slow for many drivers.

Another thing to think about: The location of electrical outlets. Suppose you DO ride your mini electric scooter around in the Wall-Mart. Now the power in the battery is low. Where will you plug it in? What if that store will not let you use their outlets? And will they really let your electric scooter sit for 4-6 hours while it recharges? And what would you do in the meantime? If you are going to be using your mini electric scooter for travel to shopping centers or to work, you need to think about your 'recharging strategy.'

But I would have to say, all negative considerations to the side, that mini electric scooters are a wonderful convenience if you are looking for low-maintenance, affordable, lightweight travel - especially over short distances in urban or suburban areas.
